March 19 and 20, 2010 at 8:00 p.m. Rainer Crosett, winner of this year's Ehlers Young Artist Competition, will perform Barber's Cello Concerto under the direction of guest conductor Eric Culver ; also on the program are Gandolfi's Greatest Hits, and Sympnony No. 9 (Great C Major) by Schubert. YAC runners up will perform pre-concert recitals at 7:15 p.m. Mackenzie Melemed, piano, on Friday and Joclyn Freshman, violin on Saturday.

Ehlers Young Artist Concerto Competition

Cellist Rainer Crosett wins the Ehlers Young Artist Competition with the Barber Concerto, and will perform with the Orchestra on March 19 and 20, 2010

Runners-up will play pre-concert recitals at 7:15 p.m. Mackenzie Melemed, piano, on Friday and Jaclyn Freshman, violin, on Saturday

Each year one of our concerts features a young performer who has won our concerto competition. In addition to performing with the orchestra, the winner receives a cash prize from the Ehlers Memorial Scholarship Fund.

The Ehlers Young Artist Concerto Competition is open to musicians of high school age or younger who reside in eastern Massachusetts. All orchestral instruments are considered, including piano. Each entrant auditions to play an entire concerto or similar work suitable for performance with the orchestra.The winner is chosen by a panel of orchestra members and the music director. The Ehlers Memorial Scholarship Fund was established in 1993 in memory of Charles and Arlene Ehlers, past orchestra friends and supporters. Contributions to perpetuate this fund may be mailed to The Concord Orchestra at P.O. Box 381, Concord, MA 01742.
